Many families want to have good budget habits as well as teach their children smart money management. The average family budget is nothing more then a tool that benefits the financial future of the entire household. While many people feel that a household budget is a waste of time until you know exactly what your money is doing and where it is going you will never have true control of your family’s finances. Once you have control of your money doing this you’ll be surprised at how easy the whole process actually is.
The beauty of making a budget is that it doesn’t matter how much money you have you will still benefit from its use. The point is to first find out where your money is going and then once you take back control you can tell it what to do for you and your family. This is the biggest problem most people have with their money. Sure, it seems like there is money to spend but before the next paycheck hits the bank it’s already gone and you’re not really sure where it all went.

For many people creating a family budget is an exercise in frustration. Where to start, how to set it up, should I use budgeting software? Are all questions that nearly everyone asks? And then when they do get it set up and start tracking the money coming in and the money going out something happens. An emergency or an impulse buy that screws the whole thing up.
Unfortunately the majority of people give up on their family budget before they ever give it a chance to do what it is supposed to do. One thing everyone needs to understand is that a budget is not a rigid thing. It is flexible and needs to allow for those unintended purchases or emergencies that life is full of. And if you stick with it before long it will be a cash flow planning device you cannot live without.

What sort of financial goals can a family budget help you achieve? Getting out of debt, saving for retirement or for your children’s education, or saving for that vacation or boat are just a few of your options. No matter what your financial objectives, a good family budget will help you move toward them in an organized and controlled fashion.

There’s me, my husband and 2, 22 month olds I’m cooking for. The boys like cheese, most meats, one likes vegies the other hates them, and we all like mexican and Italian foods.
I’m in a rut and I think if I serve the boys chicken nuggets one more time they’ll kill me.
We only have about $70 a week for food so I need ideas that are easy to mix and match if you know what I’m saying.

1. Spend less than you make.
2. Establish credit but pay if off each month. Begin working on your credit score in a positive way.
3. Get into a retirement plan ASAP…not later when you think you will be able to afford it.
4. Build up a cash cushion to get you over periods of unemployment or unexpected expenses.
5. Then seek the advice of several people with life experience and compare their recommedations to determine which one is right for you.
My family and I are going to take our first troical vacation next year, and I am considering Playa del carmen in mexico, or Maui in hawaii. Our kids will be five and nine, and we are on a budget. We want to relax, but have fn things to do as well. I have heard that both are great, but I am worried about the saftey in Mexico, and the price of hawaii. Thanks!
